The City of Iron Mountain has both a City Civil Service and a Police and Fire Civil Service Commission. The most common application of the Civil Service System is to test potential job applicants prior to employment interviews. The Civil Service Tests measure aptitude in the areas most important to the position the test would assist in hiring. The purpose of the Police and Fire Civil Service Board and the City Civil Service Board are to select, monitor and ensure that the Civil Service Process is being properly executed.
The City Civil Service Commission is a five (5) member board. Each member holds a three (3) year appointment. The board meets as needed. Meeting times and location will be posted per the requirements of the Open Meetings Act.
The Police and Fire Civil Service Commission is a three (3) member board. Each member holds a six (6) year appointment. The board meets as needed. Meeting times and location will be posted per the requirements of the Open Meetings Act.
