Planning and Community Development
The City of Iron Mountain is committed to providing property management and economic development services through the issuance of zoning permits, rental housing code compliance, enforcement of the City Code of Ordinances and other development activities. We are committed to supporting our current community members and organizations while welcoming additional economic and re-development opportunities.
The Clerk/Treasurer’s department provides the following services:
- Issuing Zoning Permits
- Zoning Code Compliance
- Variance and Special use applications
- ADA Coordinator
- Flood Plain Manager
- Site plan review
- property uses identified
- identify required setbacks for structures
- new or modified driveway regulations
- excavation permits in public right-of-way
Developers, project managers and property owners are encouraged to call and schedule a preliminary meeting to review the ordinance requirements, discuss any particular characteristics of the site, review the permit procedure and discuss time lines for the approval of permits.

The Fire Department provides the following services:
- Administration of the Rental Housing Program

The Police Department provides the following services:
- Rental Housing Code Compliance
- Elimination of Blight
- City Ordinance Compliance
The source of blight complaints are not reported to offending parties. Community input is encouraged and appreciated.
