New Charge for Property Lookup Information
Beginning October 1, 2010, the City of Iron Mountain will begin charging non-owners a fee to access information involving property information and taxation.
For the past several years, this information was available at no cost to realtors, title companies, tax services, and also gave the general public the ability to view any property on the City’s website at www.cityofironmountain.com.
The City Council took a close look at the annual cost to the City for providing unrestricted online access to property information, and whether or not the City could continue to pay the higher cost option which is non-fee-based to the general public. With the current restrictive budget and the cost of maintaining the system, the Council elected to switch our online property services to an option that would save costs to the City while maintaining access for property owners at no cost.
The new option will also allow daily updating between our in-house records and online information, but will require a small charge from non-owners to view property records.
The council adopted the following new charges: $2.00 per property record online or $5.00 per record in person over the counter. This information will no longer be available over the telephone or by fax to non-owners. After October 1st staff will be directing all phone requests from non-owners to the website.
Options for invoicing and paying in bulk are available directly through the website provider or as a pay-as-you-need basis with a credit card. As in the past, property owners will be able to access their own property information free of charge online with a user account or in person.
