Downtown Iron Mountain is an area rich in history and filled with promise for the future. From our quaint coffee shops, inviting restaurants, and beautiful home stores to our very own organic market and our fantastic gifts shops, downtown Iron Mountain has something for resident and tourist alike!
The Downtown Development Authority and the Iron Mountain Main Street program wish to keep you informed of all of the happenings in this historical area. Be sure to check back regularly as this site is updated, improved, and added to throughout the coming months.
Iron Mountain Main Street's Mission
The mission of Iron Mountain Main Street is to enhance and promote the economic and social vitality of our downtown district by cultivating a unique and quality atmosphere that attracts and retains businesses, shoppers, and residents while maintaining our historic character utilizing the Main Street "Four-Point Approach."
Iron Mountain Main Street's Vision
In 2020, Downtown Iron Mountain will be universally accessible, pedestrian friendly, and will provide a warm environment where all are welcome. Downtown Iron Mountain will be a regional center with many top quality festivals, celebrations, special events, retail promotions, and marketing activities which sell downtown Iron Mountain to residents, tourists, and entrepreneurs alike. Its historic commercial buildings and façades have been repaired and fully utilized, and are sustainable in 2020. Appropriate infill development has occurred, creating a vibrant street wall – one that is full of commercial activity. Downtown Iron Mountain has well maintained streetscape amenities and decorative fixtures that have been extended to take in the entire downtown district. Public gathering places have been completed and boast child-friendly and cultural amenities.
In 2020, downtown Iron Mountain has a diverse retail business base with more specialty shops, high-traffic service businesses, restaurants, and out door cafés, many of them destination businesses, attracting people from all walks of life. Retail businesses are prosperous, have consistent store hours, and are open seven days a week. Most upper floors of downtown Iron Mountain commercial buildings are being used as apartments or office space. Economic development in downtown Iron Mountain is spurred by a new convention center/ trade show facility, a revitalized Braumart Theater, and an expanded Farmer’s Market.
In 2020, downtown Iron Mountain has an award-winning, accredited Main Street program that serves as a model for other communities. This program is stably funded, fully staffed, and has full, diverse, and active compliment of volunteers. The community has worked cooperatively and collaboratively in achieving this new vision for downtown Iron Mountain and the surrounding area.
